TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Central Weather Administration (CWA, 氣象署) issued a heavy rain advisory on Thursday (Aug. 29), prompting Songshan Airport (松山機場) to halt ground operations at 2:17 p.m. due to thunderstorms. This suspension may cause flight delays.
The Civil Aeronautics Administration (CAA, 民航局) advised travelers and those meeting passengers to monitor flight updates and contact airlines for any issues. The CAA has instructed relevant airports to inform travelers through bulletin boards, scrolling texts, and announcements inside terminals, and to provide the latest flight information on their official website.
The CWA warned that strong convective cloud systems could lead to short-duration heavy rainfall. Regions from Yunlin (雲林) to Tainan (台南), Pingtung (屏東), and Nantou (南投), as well as mountainous areas from New Taipei (新北) to Taichung (台中) and Kaohsiung (高雄), face a high probability of localized heavy rain, lightning, and strong gusts.
Heavy rain areas include the mountainous regions of New Taipei, Taoyuan (桃園), Hsinchu (新竹), Miaoli (苗栗), Taichung, Nantou, Yunlin, Chiayi City (嘉義市), Chiayi County (嘉義縣), Tainan, Kaohsiung, Pingtung, and Hengchun Peninsula (恆春半島).
Travelers should stay updated on weather and flight conditions to avoid inconvenience, the CAA urged.
