TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan's Ministry of National Defense (MND, 國防部) reported on Wednesday (Aug. 28) that it detected 30 People's Liberation Army (PLA) aircraft, with 27 crossing the Taiwan Strait's median line and entering Taiwan's southwestern and eastern ADIZ (air defense identification zone), between Tuesday 6 a.m. and 6 a.m. today.
The defense ministry also noted the presence of seven People's Liberation Army Navy (PLAN) vessels and one official ship, totaling 38 Chinese military assets in the area.
The MND revealed that between 7:33 a.m. on Tuesday and 5:33 a.m. on Wednesday, the Taiwanese military identified 20 Chinese aircraft, including main and auxiliary combat aircraft and drones. Of these, 17 crossed the median line, with some approaching within 50 nautical miles of Cape Eluanbi (鵝鑾鼻).
Further incursions occurred between 7:57 a.m. and 9:07 p.m. on Tuesday, with nine PLA aircraft detected in Taiwan's southwestern ADIZ, the closest being 66 nautical miles from Cape Eluanbi. MND also reported a helicopter sighting in Taiwan's eastern ADIZ between 4:28 p.m. and 6:35 p.m. on Tuesday, approximately 59 nautical miles from Green Island (綠島).
The ministry emphasized that the Armed Forces have monitored and responded to these activities using CAP aircraft, Navy vessels, and coastal missile systems.
