Pingtung duck egg prices drop as supply stabilizes (TVBS News)

PINGTUNG (TVBS News) — An egg industry association in Pingtung County (屏東縣) announced Monday (Aug. 26) that the duck egg supply has gradually returned to normal, prompting a price reduction from NT$50 to NT$48 per catty starting Tuesday. The association expects further price drops next week.

Hsu Yuan-chi (許源吉), the association's secretary-general, explained that Typhoon Gaemi (凱米颱風) devastated the duck egg production areas, causing heavy rains that washed away many ducks and significantly reduced egg production.

As the Mid-Autumn Festival (中秋節) approaches, the high demand for mooncakes has exacerbated the supply shortage, driving the price of duck eggs to a historic high of NT$50 per catty. Hsu emphasized that the current stock of duck eggs for mooncake production is sufficient, allowing for the price reduction to NT$48 per catty.

The industry will monitor the situation closely and adjust prices as necessary to ensure stability in the market.
