TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwanese athletes are entering the final four days of competition at the Olympic Games, anticipating a peak period for medal wins.
The women's table tennis team defeated Australia 3-0 in the round of 16 and will face China in the quarterfinals at 9 p.m. Wednesday (Aug. 7) Taiwan time. If they fail to advance, the table tennis team's journey will conclude.
The women's golf team, consisting of Chien Pei-yun (錢珮芸) and Hsu Wei-ling (徐薇淩), will start their first round. Lai Kuan-chieh (賴冠傑), competing for the first time at the Olympics, will participate in the men's 1000m single canoe sprint heats at 5:40 p.m. Should he advance, he will compete in the quarterfinals at 8:40 p.m.
Woman boxing athlete Lin Yu-ting (林郁婷) has secured at least a bronze medal and will face Turkey's Esra Yıldız Kahraman in the semifinals at Roland Garros Stadium at 3:30 a.m. on Thursday (Aug. 8) Taiwan time. Taiwan's weightlifting team will also commence its schedule, starting with Fang Wan-ling (方莞靈) in the women's 49kg category at 1:30 a.m. the same day.
Lin Geng-neng (林敬能), the head coach of the weightlifting team, expressed optimism about Fang and Chen Wen-hui (陳玟卉), who will compete in the women's 71kg category on Aug. 10.
