TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Minister of Transportation and Communications Li Men-yen (李孟諺) announced a series of promotional measures to boost international tourism to Taiwan on Tuesday (July 30), such as buy-two-get-one-free airline tickets and buy-one-get-one-free high-speed rail tickets.

Li emphasized that the April earthquake, which impacted international travel to Hualien, and Typhoon Gaemi, which disrupted the Alishan Forest Railway (阿里山林業鐵路), have deterred potential visitors. He noted that Taroko (太魯閣), considered Asia's Grand Canyon, is one of the major international attractions affected by these natural events.

The Ministry of Transportation and Communications (MOTC, 交通部) has set a target of 10 million visitors for 2024, with 4.3 million tourists already visiting Taiwan this year.

The Tourism Administration will introduce new promotional measures to attract more international tourists. These efforts include announcing a new annual ambassador and collaborating with airlines from various countries to offer enticing deals. These efforts aim to overcome the setbacks caused by recent natural disasters and achieve the ministry's ambitious tourism goals.
