TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Vice President Hsiao Bi-khim (蕭美琴) emphasized that gaining global trust is crucial for Taiwan's software industry during the opening forum of the 2024 Digital Application (2024數位應用週) on Tuesday (July 30).
Hsiao explained that while some countries use technology to control individuals, democratic nations should leverage it to address daily life, social, and national security issues. She shared a personal anecdote about using new technology to monitor her cat's well-being, highlighting her concerns about the security of remote monitoring software.
Taiwan excels in hardware manufacturing, but Hsiao noted significant growth potential in software applications. She expressed optimism that collaboration between industry, government, and academia could position Taiwan as a leader in this field.
Shen Bo-yan (沈柏延), president of the Information Service Industry Association of R.O.C. (CISA, 中華民國資訊軟體協會), stressed the need for the information services industry to accelerate in response to the rapid-developing AI trends. He pointed out that half of the world's top 10 market-value companies, including Microsoft, Apple, Google, and Meta, are software-based. Taiwan's comparatively smaller industry size indicates vast growth potential.
The event, now in its sixth year, saw participation from key figures such as Deputy Minister of Digital Affairs (數位發展部政務次長) Lin Yi-jing (林宜敬) and Leu Jang-hwa (呂正華), head of the Administration for Digital Industries (數發部數位產業署).
