PARIS (TVBS News)—Taiwanese judoka Yang Yung-wei (楊勇緯) advanced to the quarterfinals in the Men's -60 kg judo event at the Olympic Games Paris 2024 on Saturday (July 27). Yang defeated Andrea Carlino of Italy in a closely contested match that went to a golden score.
Both judokas initially secured a half-point, leading to a tense standoff. Yang eventually triumphed using his signature triangle choke, earning his place in the next round.
Yang made history at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics by winning Taiwan's first-ever Olympic judo medal. He aims to clinch the gold medal this year in Paris.
Yang will face the match winner between Dilshot Khalmatov of Ukraine and Yeldos Smetov of Kazakhstan.
