TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taipei Mayor Chiang Wan-an (蔣萬安) on Thursday (July 18) addressed the recent blackout, expressing concern over the frequent power outages and unsettling residents.

A massive power outage hit Taipei's Neihu District (內湖區) on Wednesday night, affecting 3,279 households. Taipei City Councilor Lee Ming-hsien (李明賢) voiced his dissatisfaction on Facebook, questioning if small animals once again caused the issue.

Lee highlighted that recent frequent power disruptions by Taiwan Power Company (Taipower, 台灣電力公司) have sparked public discontent, becoming a scapegoat under the government's wavering energy policies.

When asked on Thursday about Taiwan Power Company's NT$226.5 billion loss and energy policies, Chiang emphasized the central government should address the overall energy policy. Authorities should face the energy policy realistically and create a long-term plan rather than considering it ideologically, he stressed.
