TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan Power Company (Taipower) announced on Wednesday (July 3) that power outage incidents have decreased by 70%, emphasizing that they are not blaming small animals for these issues. The company shared this information on its Facebook fan page (台電電力粉絲團) and highlighted ongoing preventive measures.

Taipower explained that power distribution incidents have significantly dropped from 21,019 in 2012 to 6,133 in 2023. The company has implemented line-covering projects, increased tree trimming, and installed bird deterrents and rodent mesh. These efforts aim to mitigate the risk of animals causing outages.

Comparing 2023 to 2022, Taipower reported a 25% reduction in power outage incidents, marking the most significant improvement year-over-year. The data also showed a decrease in animal-related outages from a peak in 2015 to 1,077 cases in 2023, a reduction of over 2,000 incidents in nine years.

Taipower stressed the complexity of Taiwan's power distribution network and the inevitability of occasional short-term outages due to aging equipment or external factors. They reiterated that if there is a shortage, even if repairs are completed, power cannot be supplied.

Taipower is committed to continuously identifying vulnerable areas, inspecting lines, and strengthening equipment to further reduce outage incidents. The company aims to enhance the power grid's resilience and minimize future disruptions.
