BASTAD, SWEDEN (TVBS News) — Tsao Chia-yi (曹家宜), a 20-year-old Taiwanese tennis player, clinched the women's doubles title with her partner Peangtarn Plipuech from Thailand last Sunday (July 14) at the Nordea Open in Bastad, Sweden. They defeated the Argentinian duo Maria Lourdes Carle and Julia Riera 7-5, 6-3 in a thrilling final.
Tsao and Plipuech showcased exceptional performance throughout the tournament. They easily dispatched the Ukrainian Kolb sisters, Maryna and Nadiya in the round of 16.
In the quarterfinals, they swept aside an American pair, and in the semifinals, they triumphed over the second-seeded team of Sabrina Santamaria and Renata Zarazua, 6-4, 6-3.
Tsao will partner with Taiwan's top women's doubles player, Hsieh Su-wei (謝淑薇), at this year's Paris Olympics. This latest victory marks Tsao's 16th career title and her third women's doubles title this season, bolstering her confidence for the upcoming Olympic competition.
