TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Central Weather Administration (CWA) issued "orange" heat alerts for 14 municipalities on Thursday (July 11), predicting afternoon thunderstorms in northern and central Taiwan. The storms are expected to last longer than the previous day.
Meteorologist Lin Te-en (林得恩) explained that the weakening and eastward retreat of the Pacific high-pressure system will cause isolated afternoon thunderstorms in northern, northeastern, eastern, and other mountainous areas. He also warned of the potential for heavy localized rainfall, urging caution against sudden heavy rain, lightning, and strong gusts.
Meanwhile, Changhua County (彰化縣), Yunlin County (雲林縣), Tainan City (臺南市), Kaohsiung City (高雄市), Pingtung County (屏東縣), Hualien County (花蓮縣), and Taitung County (臺東縣) face orange heat alerts, with temperatures possibly reaching 36 degrees Celsius.
Meanwhile, Taipei City (臺北市), New Taipei City (新北市), Taichung City (臺中市), Nantou County (南投縣), Chiayi City (嘉義市), Chiayi County (嘉義縣), and Yilan County (宜蘭縣) are under yellow heat alerts.
Residents should prepare for extreme weather conditions and stay informed about further updates from the CWA.
