TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Chiayi County's magistrate traveled to Japan on Tuesday (July 9) to promote Taiwanese pineapples and visited Yamaguchi Prefecture, Hofu City, where 15 middle schools included Chiayi pineapples in their school lunches for the first time.
Magistrate Weng Chang-liang (翁章梁) joined students for lunch and distributed pineapple cakes, showcasing agricultural education. He also hosted a tasting event at a local supermarket, allowing Japanese consumers to sample Chiayi's "honey-sweet" pineapples.
Weng noted that the tasting event, which included a press conference, aimed to introduce Chiayi pineapples to the Japanese market. He emphasized the high sugar content, moisture, and delicate texture of the pineapples, currently in peak season, to highlight Taiwan's reputation as a fruit kingdom.
