TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Ministry of National Defense (MND, 國防部) reported Thursday (July 11) morning that the Shandong aircraft carrier (山東艦) of China's People's Liberation Army (PLA) Navy is continuing its air-sea joint training. Over the past 24 hours, Taiwan detected 66 Chinese aircraft, with 56 crossing the Taiwan Strait's median line (海峽中線), and seven naval vessels operating near Taiwan.
The MND revealed that Chinese military activities near the Taiwan Strait have been frequent. Various Chinese combat and support aircraft flew through Taiwan's southern and southeastern airspace to the western Pacific, coordinating with the Shandong carrier.
The ministry emphasized that Taiwan's military closely monitors and responds using mission aircraft, naval ships, and land-based missile systems. According to Taiwanese Air Force's flight path maps, Chinese aircraft intruded 72 nautical miles from Keelung (基隆) in the north, and 91, 58, and 33 nautical miles from Eluanbi (鵝鑾鼻) in the southwest and southeast.
In May, during the Joint Sword-2024A (聯合利劍-2024A) military exercise, Taiwan's Air Force released footage of an F-16V (blk20) targeting a Shenyang J-16 (殲16) using the Sniper ATP (狙擊手先進標定莢艙). Taiwan's Air Force released footage again on Thursday showing the Sniper ATP targeting a J-16, demonstrating Taiwan's robust surveillance capabilities.
Taiwan's military continues to maintain vigilance and readiness in response to these incursions, highlighting the ongoing tensions in the region.
