TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Chinese authorities detained the Penghu-registered fishing vessel Da Jin Man No.88 (大進滿88號), raising alarms in Taiwan. National Security Bureau Director-General Tsai Ming-yen (蔡明彥) called the incident, which occurred on Thursday (July 4), unusual and promised meticulous government response.

The Chinese coast guard boarded and seized the boat on Tuesday (July 2) in Kinmen waters. Tsai reiterated the government’s commitment to protecting fishermen's legal rights and emphasized the importance of vigilance and legal compliance for those operating in sensitive areas.

Furthermore, Tsai addressed concerns about alleged Chinese influence on Taiwanese TV political shows. He confirmed that the National Security Bureau had passed on information to the proper authorities and that the Investigation Bureau had initiated an investigation.

Tsai assured the public that the bureau would oversee and coordinate national security efforts to address any abnormal or illegal activities and that cases of alleged infiltration would be actively pursued by prosecutorial and investigative authorities once enough evidence is gathered.
