HSINCHU (TVBS News) — Hsinchu's Public Health Bureau (新竹市衛生局) announced on Friday (Nov. 1) that the second phase of free flu and COVID-19 vaccinations is now available, urging residents aged 50 to 64 to get vaccinated promptly.
The bureau emphasized the importance of timely vaccinations to protect against respiratory infections, which are prevalent during the autumn and winter months due to significant temperature fluctuations.
Chen Hou-chuan (陳厚全), director of Hsinchu's Public Health Bureau, reported that the city procured 125,000 doses of free flu vaccines this year. Since the first phase began on Oct. 1, residents have used 72,470 doses, achieving a 58% usage rate by Oct. 30.
The bureau stressed that the elderly and young children are particularly vulnerable to respiratory infections during this season.
The bureau also highlighted the continuous mutation of flu and COVID-19 virus strains each year, urging citizens to complete their vaccinations to reduce the risk of severe complications and fatalities.
To facilitate access, the bureau has partnered with 71 contracted medical institutions and established community vaccination stations, ensuring convenient access for seniors 65 and older to receive their shots and mitigate viral threats.
