TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Internet has woven itself into the fabric of our daily lives, with Taiwanese averaging 7 hours and 13 minutes online each day, according to the "2024 Global Digital Report by We Are Social and Meltwater." As of early 2024, Taiwan had 21.71 million Internet users, covering 90.7% of its population, marking a slight increase from the previous year.
Concerns persist about users becoming entrenched in echo chambers and facing privacy risks. Professor Huang Wei-wei from the Department of Radio and Television at National Chengchi University warns that AI and big data algorithms on websites and platforms track browsing histories and digital footprints. She advises deleting browsing histories daily to minimize tracking.
Echoing Huang's concerns, Lu Yuwei, secretary general of the Digital Marketing Association (DMA), recommends changing passwords regularly and avoiding suspicious links. The challenge lies in balancing the convenience of the internet with its underlying risks.
