TAIPEI (TVBS News) — President Lai Ching-te (賴清德) presided over a joint military academy graduation ceremony on Thursday (June 27), urging the newly commissioned officers to remain loyal to the nation, uphold democracy, and protect its citizens.

President Lai praised the 1,747 graduates for choosing to serve at a young age and acknowledged the rigorous demands of their military training compared to traditional higher education, noting the sacrifice of personal time it entailed.

President Lai emphasized the responsibility the graduates bear in maintaining national stability wherever they serve across Taiwan. He extended gratitude to the parents for their sacrifices and to the instructors for preparing the graduates to defend the nation.

As commander-in-chief, President Lai reaffirmed his commitment to safeguard the nation and its citizens, underlining his support for recent military reforms initiated by Minister of National Defense Wellington Koo (顧立雄). These reforms are intended to streamline processes while upholding military discipline.
