TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Ministry of National Defense (國防部, MND) on Thursday (June 27) reported 33 incursions by Chinese aircraft that crossed the median line of the Taiwan Strait within the 24-hour period starting from 6 a.m. the previous day. These incursions disturbed the airspace over northern, central, southwestern, and eastern Taiwan.
During the same time frame, the MND detected 35 instances of Chinese aircraft, 33 of which crossed the median line of the Taiwan Strait into Taiwan's northern, central, southwestern, and eastern airspace. Additionally, the MND noted seven instances of Chinese naval vessels operating near the Taiwan Strait.
The Republic of China Armed Forces responded by utilizing mission aircraft, ships, and shore-based missile systems to monitor and deal with the situation. According to the flight path chart released by the Air Force, the closest Chinese aircraft came within about 40 nautical miles of Keelung (基隆) and approximately 110 and 43 nautical miles from Eluanbi (鵝鑾鼻) at two different points.
The increased Chinese military activity in and around Taiwan's airspace and waters underscores the ongoing tension in the region. The Republic of China Armed Forces remains vigilant and prepared to respond to further incursions.
