TAIPEI (TVBS News) — A system outage hit YouBike (微笑單車) across Taiwan on Tuesday (June 11), rendering the popular bike-sharing service unavailable for rent for over half an hour.
The malfunction began at 7:51 a.m. and affected Taipei and the entire YouBike system nationwide, leaving commuters and tourists stranded.
The Department of Transportation, Taipei City Government (台北市政府交通局), confirmed that both YouBike 2.0 and the electric-assist YouBike 2.0E were impacted by the anomaly, preventing users from accessing the rental service.
The issue was resolved swiftly, with normal operations resuming by 8:27 a.m. The department has since requested the service provider to investigate and rectify the fault to prevent future disruptions.
YouBike company has stated that the cause of the outage is still being determined. However, they assured the public that the system has been restored and is now fully operational.
