TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Amid a surge in virus cases, Taiwan is grappling with an unprecedented wave of infections, including influenza, COVID-19, and norovirus, leading to overcrowded medical facilities. Public health experts are urgently calling for the public to wear masks in crowded places in response to the peak of the virus season.
Virus Outbreak Peaks
Public health experts are emphasizing the importance of preventive measures, such as wearing masks in public spaces, to mitigate the spread of these viruses.
Local Authorities Urge Caution
Changhua County Public Health Bureau Director Yeh Yen-po (葉彥伯) highlighted the diversity and severity of the current infectious viruses, all at their peak, urging the public not to take the situation lightly. He stressed the importance of frequent handwashing and mask-wearing as essential practices during this critical time.
Additionally, Yeh mentioned that the ongoing mutations of the COVID-19 virus have led to a decrease in the public's willingness to get vaccinated. However, he strongly recommends that elderly individuals or those with chronic illnesses get the new vaccine to protect themselves against the virus.
As Taiwan faces this challenging period, the collective effort of the public in adhering to preventive measures and considering vaccination could play a crucial role in controlling the spread of these viruses and alleviating the pressure on the healthcare system.
