WASHINGTON (TVBS News) — Former U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo revealed on Wednesday (May 15) that he will attend the inauguration of Taiwan's President-elect Lai Ching-te (賴清德) in an individual capacity.
This statement was made during an interview with Radio Free Asia (RFA) at the Hudson Institute in Washington, highlighting the significance of the event scheduled for May 20 in Taipei.
Pompeo, now a private citizen, expressed his eagerness to meet Lai, emphasizing the importance of prioritizing Taiwan's interests.
In addition to Pompeo's personal visit, the American Institute in Taiwan (AIT) announced that a bipartisan delegation will represent the American people at Lai's inauguration later that day.
AIT Director Sandra Oudkirk will also join the delegation, underscoring the depth of U.S. support for Taiwan.
