TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Presidential Inauguration Ceremony is scheduled for May 20, with invitations extended to politicians from various parties. Asked by the media on Sunday (May 12), Kuomintang (KMT) Chair Eric Chu stated he has not received an invitation, while Taiwan People’s Party (TPP) Chair Ko Wen-je confirmed his attendance, emphasizing the importance of national ceremonies for political reconciliation and social harmony.
Among the six special municipality mayors, DPP Tainan Mayor Huang Wei-che and KMT Taichung Mayor Lu Shiow-yen will reportedly be in attendance. KMT Mayors Chang San-cheng of Taoyuan, Chiang Wan-an of Taipei, and Hou Yu-ih of New Taipei, however, will miss the event due to other commitments but have conveyed their best wishes to the President-elect Lai Ching-te. The attendance of DPP Kaohsiung Mayor Chen Chi-mei remains unconfirmed.
When queried about KMT politicians attending the inauguration, journalist Huang Wei-han emphasized, "country before party." Vice Premier Cheng Wen-tsan noted, "The inauguration of the president is a demonstration of democratic politics, but each political figure's decisions should be respected."
