TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Intelligence quotient (IQ) and emotional quotient (EQ) have long been recognized as key indicators of success in both academic and professional realms. However, a new contender has emerged: the Resilience Quotient (RQ).
RQ is garnering significant attention in today's workforce. While a prestigious educational background may initially catch an employer's eye, thriving in a role demands more than just a certificate.
According to Joseph Tang, CEO at a Taiwanese public relations company, VOCAL MIDDLE, "The key lies in how one can recover from setbacks. We will inevitably face pressure and failures, but how quickly you can recover and what mindset you return to are crucial."
In Taiwan, recruitment processes often involve candidates forming groups to compete in case study competitions, where their execution rate and ability to cooperate with others are evaluated. In the 2024 survey of the most favored universities by enterprises, problem-solving abilities topped the list, with a staggering 60.5% of enterprises emphasizing their importance.
At 60.1%, close behind is the stress on communication skills, underscoring the significance of clear communication and teamwork. Resilience and adaptability also stand out, with a solid 54.2% of companies valuing employees who can bounce back from setbacks and adapt to changes.
Tang further emphasized the importance of self-awareness, stating, "I believe it's crucial whether one can accept that there's room for improvement. Only when one acknowledges areas for growth can one truly appreciate their strengths."
Alice Sun, Senior Manager at VOCAL MIDDLE, highlighted the need for continuous self-improvement, noting, "The longer one works, the more they can cultivate their ability for self-control and self-accomplishment."
While IQ may help one excel in academics, EQ and RQ fuel continuous growth in the professional arena, according to Sun. The ability to solve problems, overcome failures, and continually improve oneself has become the most powerful asset for job seekers in today's competitive landscape.
