TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwanese chefs are showcasing their culinary prowess as they prepare for the upcoming Year of the Dragon, crafting Lunar New Year dishes believed to usher in prosperity and good fortune for families.

One particular delicacy gaining widespread popularity is a sticky dish composed of an abundance of tapioca starch stir-fried with vegetables and diced meat. This dish's stickiness symbolizes the enduring nature of the prosperity it represents.

The head chef of a Taiwanese restaurant shared insights into the significance of this dish, explaining that it has long been a cherished tradition for families celebrating the Lunar New Year.

"I remember enjoying this dish as a child. We typically savor it on the 1st or 15th day of the lunar calendar, especially during our prayers," he said.

Traditionally, preparing this dish involves reciting a special chant believed to attract good fortune and wealth for the year ahead.

As the starch is continuously stirred, it gradually turns transparent and gooey, signaling its readiness to bring a bountiful new year to those fortunate enough to partake in its savory goodness.
