TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) initiated the distribution of COVID-19 rapid test kits to travelers arriving and departing from Taoyuan International Airport on Wednesday (Jan. 3).
These kits are now available in both reception areas and exit halls of the airport's first and second terminals. Regardless of age, each traveler is entitled to receive one kit.
CDC Deputy Director-General Philip Lo stated the day before that Taiwan could anticipate the peak of the COVID-19 surge in mid-to-late January, with the potential for another increase post-Lunar New Year holidays.
Travelers have expressed appreciation for this policy. Visitors from Malaysia commended the thoughtfulness and assistance provided by the Taiwanese government.
Similarly, a Taiwanese traveler returning from Japan expressed gratitude, citing concerns about transmitting the virus to her family amid the resurgence of the pandemic.
Meanwhile, a Taiwanese citizen working in Indonesia, while acknowledging the more challenging conditions abroad, conveyed confidence in the local Taiwanese situation. He also expressed acceptance and appreciation for the government's proactive distribution of rapid test kits.
The CDC has indicated that the distribution of test kits may extend beyond the Lunar New Year holidays, contingent on evolving international and domestic pandemic circumstances.
