TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Kaohsiung Mayor Chen Chi-mai and the president of National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University (NYCU) jointly announced the upcoming establishment of an NYCU branch campus in Kaohsiung on Tuesday (Jan. 2).
The new campus will primarily focus on recruiting master's and doctoral students in the semiconductor and AI industries. Its mission is to provide high-end talent for Kaohsiung's rapidly growing sectors, with recruitment set to commence for the 2025 academic year.
NYCU President Lin Chi-hung outlined two primary objectives behind the Kaohsiung branch's establishment: fostering top-tier talent and spearheading pioneering research. This initiative also aligns with national policies regarding talent development.
Located just 1.7 kilometers (a four-minute drive) from Taiwan High-Speed Rail's Zuoying Station and a mere 3 kilometers from the Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC), the new location offers numerous amenities. These include 15 professional meeting rooms, a 500-seat international conference hall, and a spacious exhibition hall capable of accommodating 1,000 individuals.
A press release from the Economic Development Bureau disclosed that the Kaohsiung city government and NYCU have formalized a cooperation agreement. The new Kaohsiung campus will occupy the existing Garden Villa Hotel and the Civil Service Development Institute, adhering to Ministry of Education regulations for campus facilities.
