TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Legislative candidate Chen Kai-ning suspended her campaign on Saturday (Dec. 30) after her estranged father, a retired air force officer featured in a viral delivery worker video by comedian Brian Tseng, was revealed.
Tseng's video portrayed the challenges of delivery workers, featuring the retired airman claiming to be a single parent. It later emerged that he has a daughter, Chen Kai-ning, actively running for the legislature.
Chen confirmed the delivery worker is her father but noted her mother is alive and was her primary caregiver. Her parents divorced when she was young, so she learned about her father's situation from third-party accounts.
In response, Chen paused her campaign activities for a week as a gesture of respect to those affected. "I apologize to everyone impacted by this issue," Chen stated.
