TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan's Food and Drug Administration (FDA) released a list on Tuesday (Dec. 26) of failed border inspections, singling out two shipments of Japanese strawberries for non-compliance.
These batches will now undergo 100 percent inspection, according to the FDA.
The imported Japanese strawberries have faced repeated border interceptions due to pesticide residue concerns. The two non-compliant batches are from Fukuoka and Tochigi.
According to FDA Deputy Director Lin Chin-Fu, this year, out of the 1,084 inspected Japanese strawberry batches, 19 were found to be non-compliant, accounting for a 1.75 percent failure rate.
The primary reason for non-compliance is pesticide residue. The FDA will continue 100 percent batch inspections until April 30, 2024.
