TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) presidential candidate Lai Ching-te embarked on a four-day campaign journey around the island, commencing in Yilan County on Thursday (Dec. 21).
In his address, Lai emphasized Yilan's significance as a symbol of democracy and Taiwan's unwavering commitment to opposing authoritarianism while showcasing its democratic values to the world.
Lai also underscored the importance of culture in defining a nation's identity and announced plans to feature special guests from various cities during the campaign.
He highlighted Yilan County as the birthplace of Hokkien opera, a traditional Taiwanese art form with global recognition, promoting a deeper understanding of Taiwan worldwide.
Describing Hokkien opera as a cultural treasure that reflects Taiwan's essence, Lai pledged increased support for local culture, aiming to enhance Taiwan's global recognition through its cultural heritage.
Lai also discussed his policy objectives, outlining three key pillars and seven infrastructure initiatives to bolster Taiwan's national development and restore pride among Yilan residents.
