TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan People's Party (TPP) presidential candidate Ko Wen-je challenged Kuomintang (KMT) vice-presidential candidate Jaw Shaw-kong on Monday (Dec. 18) to clarify whether he should resign as chairman of the Broadcasting Corporation of China, pointedly asking, "Don't you know right from wrong?"

With the presidential debate around the corner next Saturday (Dec. 30), Ko mentioned that his preparation resembled cramming for a comprehensive exam, stating that he wasn’t entirely ready but would make an effort to read the relevant materials and prepare.

Ko expressed his view that a single debate wouldn't sway the presidential election, noting that both the KMT and the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) were clever in scheduling the debate just four days before the blackout period for election polls, presumably to minimize its impact on the race.

The TPP candidate suggested that this maneuver by the traditional blue and green parties aimed to prevent the debate outcome from overly influencing voter opinion, with both camps prepared with protective measures.

In addition, Ko was spotted at an event wearing a pin of the flag of the Republic of China, which has stirred speculation among deep-blue supporters that he might be courting the voter base of Han Kuo-yu.

Responding to these suppositions, Ko remarked that his attire was handled by his assistants. Stressing a desire to maintain a simple mind in a complex world, Ko asserted that Taiwan and its flag do not belong to any single political party.
