Kuo: Jaw’s candid style wins over Taiwan’s youth (TVBS News)

TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Former legislator Julian Kuo, in a recent episode of the TVBS show "News Vernacular," commented on Saturday (Dec. 16) about Kuomintang (KMT) vice presidential candidate Jaw Shaw-kong's appeal to young voters. Kuo noted that Jaw's straightforward and outspoken style resonates with Taiwan's younger generation.

As the 2024 election approaches, all political camps intensify their campaign efforts. Jaw's recent engagement with students at National Chengchi University (NCCU) has sparked discussions, indicating his outreach to younger demographics during his political tour.

Kuo emphasized Jaw's ability to connect with the youth through candid and unfiltered responses, which he suggested aligns with young voters' preference for authenticity in political discourse.

This development is notable as candidates compete for young voter support. Jaw has surprisingly gained attention from the 20-40 age group, traditionally not the core supporter base for older-generation KMT candidates.

Kuo reported that polls indicate the 73-year-old Jaw has made a favorable impact on this younger voter segment, leaving the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) perplexed about his popularity.
