TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Residents in northern Taiwan faced a continuous drizzle on Monday (Dec. 4) as a weather front moved in, bringing heavy rain and temperature swings across the island.
The front spread thick clouds and heavy rain over the north while the south experienced sporadic showers. The Central Weather Administration (CWA) issued heavy rain warnings for Keelung, New Taipei, and Yilan.
Temperatures remained steady, ranging from 17 to 21 degrees Celsius across Taiwan. The day saw a rapid increase in temperatures, with the north reaching 20 to 23 degrees, Hualien and central areas hitting 24 to 25 degrees, and the south and Taitung climbing to 26 to 29 degrees.
A cold start is expected in northern Taiwan on Tuesday, with the strengthening northeast Monsoon bringing isolated showers to the north and east. The central and southern mountainous regions may see brief, scattered showers, while other areas will likely be cloudy.
From Wednesday night, temperatures are expected to drop significantly for three consecutive days due to the Monsoon's southward shift, introducing cooler air to the island. Despite limited cold air exposure, daytime temperatures will vary significantly, with nighttime chills anticipated due to radiative cooling.
Cold weather is expected to persist until Friday morning, with temperatures in open northern, central, and Huadong Valley areas projected to be 12 to 14 degrees Celsius. However, daytime warming from the sun is expected to raise temperatures to 23 to 25 degrees. The CWA advises the public to stay alert to daily temperature fluctuations.
