TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan experienced an unexpected chill on Tuesday (Nov. 14), with early morning temperatures plunging to a low of 15.2 degrees Celsius. As a strong gust of cold air, rivaling that of continental masses, heads south, temperatures this week are expected to drop to around 10 degrees Celsius, predominantly affecting coastal and plain areas.
Wu Der-Romg, a professor of Atmospheric Sciences at National Central University, detailed the sudden weather changes in his column, noting that a weather front arriving on Thursday noon will likely bring sporadic showers in the north and east. An arctic air mass, characterized by very cold and dry air, is set to cause significant temperature drops across the island, marking the strongest cold wave since the onset of autumn.
Professor Wu predicts the influence of this cold air mass, meeting the standards set by Anbu Weather Station, to persist until Saturday morning. However, a shift is expected by Sunday, with sunny skies helping temperatures to rise above 20 degrees Celsius. He emphasizes the need to be cautious of daily temperature fluctuations, particularly at night, due to radiative cooling effects.
The Central Weather Administration (CWA) has issued warnings about returning cold temperatures, as a developing typhoon in the region could impact Taiwan's weather in the coming weeks. This typhoon, currently forming east of the Philippine Sea, has prompted the CWA to monitor potential disruptions to Taiwan's weather patterns closely.
