TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Kuomintang (KMT) presidential candidate Hou Yu-ih took to Facebook on Sunday (Dec. 3) to celebrate the Chinese Taipei Baseball Team's first victory at the Asia Baseball Championship and criticized then-Taipei mayor Ko Wen-je for not handling Taipei Dome issues efficiently.
The Asia Baseball Championship kicked off at the newly completed Taipei Dome on Sunday night, with the home team securing a 4-0 win against South Korea, marking the venue's inaugural victory.
In his post, Hou recalled how fans chanted for a dome during the baseball championship 32 years ago amid inclement weather. He criticized the eight-year delay in Taipei Dome's completion, implying that Ko Wen-je, the presidential candidate for the Taiwan People's Party (TPP), failed to effectively resolve the issues surrounding the project.
"An eight-year delay, during which the unfinished Taipei Dome towered over the city center like stationary time. The prosperity that was meant to be and the anticipation that should have been fulfilled didn't materialize," lamented Hou.
Comparing Ko to the current Taipei Mayor Chiang Wan-an, Hou praised Chiang's determination and ability to govern the city, highlighting his achievements in dealing with the Taipei Dome conundrum within a year of taking office, in stark contrast to his predecessor's years of stagnation.
