TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan's Tourism Administration on Monday (Nov. 20) requested a hotel near Sun Moon Lake in Nantou County to adjust its reservation system to prohibit the use of "China" and provide a Traditional Chinese interface.
The hotel, newly built near Sun Moon Lake, recently began trial operation. However, the public discovered that the language of the hotel's "online reservation" system was Simplified Chinese and that the hotel's address was written as "China Taiwan" instead of Taiwan.
The Tourism Administration reportedly notified the hotel to ban the use of "China" and start providing a Traditional Chinese interface to the reservation system. It will be keeping track of the progress, officials stated.
Responding to the concern, hotel management stressed that the lodging facility is 100% Taiwanese invested, and their alliance with the Wyndham Hotels & Resorts was purposed to attract a wider tourist audience.
The hotel added that the appearance of "China Taiwan" on the reservation system was due to linkages with the Wyndham booking site, which China oversees for the Asia Pacific region.
Officials from the Nantou County Government Tourism Bureau underlined that the bureau's jurisdiction encompasses the tourist hotel. The hotel began trial operations in August and is set to debut in January next year officially, they added.
