TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Peggy Chen, wife of Ko Wen-je, revealed in a Facebook post on Thursday that Ko's decision to support the Blue-White agreement stems from a desire to address public dissatisfaction with the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) and a pressing need for a change in power.
The Kuomintang (KMT) and the Taiwan People's Party (TPP) agreed on a six-point consensus on Wednesday to collaborate after two rounds of negotiations. The final poll results are expected Saturday morning.
In a campaign staff meeting, Ko disclosed the reasons behind his decision. Participants reported that Ko, feeling intense pressure, became emotional, even breaking down in tears.
Chen stated that Ko's willingness to compromise was driven by his aspiration for a government characterized by diligent governance, integrity, and love for the homeland. She highlighted his vision for a Taiwan governed by professional talents over mere loyalty.
Chen expressed that Ko's stance is not about defeating the DPP but about preventing harm to the people and advocating for a government that values professional expertise over loyalty. She emphasized that Ko does not want Taiwan to become a battleground.
Ko, according to Chen, adheres to principles of "rationality, practicality, and science." She argued that displacing the DPP should focus on uniting behind the most viable candidates to achieve maximum results safely.
