TAIPEI (TVBS News) —The Taipei District Prosecutors Office (TDPO) on Thursday (Nov. 9) requested Chang Tung-ying, the chief partner of the cryptocurrency platform JPEX's Taiwan Office, to be held in custody over alleged fraud.

Meanwhile, celebrity Nine Chen, once the spokesperson for JPEX in Taiwan, had previously been called to testify as a witness. However, due to complaints by victims, he was later treated as a defendant.

The Taipei prosecutors directed the Taipei City Field Division, under the Ministry of Justice Investigation Bureau to carry out searches in nine locations and summoned Chang and three others a day earlier.

Authorities determined Chang and JPEX lecturer Shih Yu-sheng are suspected of violating the Banking Act and the Money Laundering Control Act.

Other defendants include its salesperson Liu Chien-fu, who was released on bail of NT$50,000, and Niu Keng-sheng, the registered person in charge of JPEX Taiwan, who was allowed to return home.

Investigations have revealed that starting in June 2023, Chang and others are suspected of persuading the public to invest in financial products such as the virtual currency JTC, attracting investments from unspecified individuals with disproportionately high returns.
