CHANGHUA (TVBS News) — Taiwanese police arrested a man for a raincoat prank that caused a stir in Changhua County's Xizhou Township on Thursday (Nov. 9).
The suspect inflated a raincoat with hydrogen three days earlier, allowing it to float and crossroads on its own, authorities said.
The so-called "raincoat ghost" incident initially puzzled officers, who suspected it might be a mechanized flag holder left by construction workers. However, surveillance footage later revealed a man deliberately filling the raincoat with hydrogen.
A resident of the area, the man sealed the head and hand sections of the raincoat with double-sided tape before filling it with the gas, an act he said he did for fun and meant no harm, police said.
Despite his claim, authorities fined the suspect for violating Taiwan's Social Order Maintenance Act and Road Traffic Management and Penalty Act, saying that his actions caused fear and public inconvenience.
