TAIPEI (TVBS News) — A former official from Taiwan's foreign affairs office in New York, surnamed Lu, is under investigation following accusations of improper behavior and sexual harassment, according to two members of the Control Yuan on Tuesday (Nov. 7).
The two members, Wang Mei-yu and Yeh I-chin, said Lu Chih-chien was previously reprimanded for engaging in an inappropriate relationship with a woman during his assignment in New York.
He was subsequently posted to the Taipei Liaison Office in South Africa in Jan. 2022 as deputy counselor, however, an allegation of sexual harassment emerged in July 2023, prompting the foreign ministry to recall him back to Taiwan.
In a statement, Wang and Yeh stated that an investigation is underway to determine whether Lu abused his power to sexually harass female subordinates and whether there are other victims involved.
Moreover, they have sought clarification from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on whether specific measures to protect the rights and services of their staff members have been planned.
