TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Kuomintang (KMT) Legislator Fei Hung-tai asked Premier Chen Chien-jen and Minister of Economic Affairs Wang Mei-hua on Tuesday (Oct. 31) to respond to the potential impact of terminating the Economic Cooperation Framework Agreement (ECFA) on Taiwan's industries.
During an interpellation session, Fei inquired about the primary sectors that would be affected if the ECFA were to end next year. Chen replied that the petrochemicals, textiles, machinery, and automobile parts industries would be mostly impacted.
Fei also questioned the impact of ending ECFA on employment, particularly for small to medium enterprises within these industries. Wang acknowledged that they were aware of this concern and had been in communication with these industries.
Fei further pressed Wang to elaborate on the specific effects. Wang assured that if such a situation were to arise, the government would help industries diversify their markets and transform their operations.
