TAIPEI (TVBS News) — As the 2024 presidential election draws closer, an opinion poll released on Monday (Oct. 30) suggested the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) presidential candidate Lai Ching-te garnered a 33.7% support rate, slightly lower than in September.

In My Formosa's latest October poll, the Kuomintang (KMT) candidate, Hou Yu-ih, earned a backing of 24.6%, a slight increase from the previous month, while Taiwan People's Party (TPP) Ko Wen-je trailed closely behind with 23.9% support rate.

Lai's support dropped by over 10% in Taipei, notably regions in the southwest, the north, and the east, as well as main off-shore islands, including those aged 20 to 29 or with education levels below primary or higher education.

The poll also explored the impact of independent candidate Terry Gou, famously known as the founder of Foxconn, if he were to join the race, which suggested Lai's support is projected to drop by 1.2%, while it sees a 2.7% drop for Hou and a 3.5% drop for Ko.

As indicated by the latest figures, Gou's potential candidacy appears to have a certain degree of potency in the election, with Ko being the most affected.
