TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) presidential candidate Lai Ching-te on Tuesday (Oct. 24) called for mainland China to cherish and value Taiwanese business people, arguing that their significant contributions to China's economy should not be overlooked.
This appeal comes as Foxconn Group, a major Taiwanese tech firm, faces investigations by China's tax and natural resources departments.
During his national policy blueprint outline, Lai emphasized that Taiwanese business people are an essential asset to China. They have fostered economic growth and created abundant opportunities.
Lai requested China not to leverage the forthcoming election to exert pressure on Taiwanese business people. He warned that such moves would result in mutual harm while shaking the business people's confidence in the Chinese market.
Furthermore, Lai urged China to respect Taiwan's democratic constitution and lifestyle and accept that the civil war between the Kuomintang and the Chinese Communist Party is over. He also encouraged China to approach an equitable, dignified dialogue exchange era.
