TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Tainan City Government announced on Friday (Oct. 13) plans to open inner lanes and allow direct left turns to scooters and motorcycle riders at 31 intersections on Zhongzheng Road and Fuqian Road in the West Central District.
Starting from Oct. 28, a six-month trial period will take place, during which "hook turn" waiting areas will be retained.
The transportation department has confirmed the trial zones, including a total length of approximately 2.55 kilometers, encompassing various intersection types such as signalized, non-signalized, and left-turn dedicated lanes.
Highlighting caution, the city government urged motorcyclists and scooter riders to pay close attention to oncoming traffic, moving to the inner lanes on the left while turning.
During the trial, over 50 no-entry symbols for scooters and motorcycles will be removed for two weeks, with traffic officials refraining from issuing violations for unauthorized use of the no-entry lanes.
The Bureau of Transportation says they will redraw left turn lanes at intersections, and signposts will be added accordingly.
