PINGTUNG (TVBS News) — The Pingtung County magistrate announced Monday (Nov. 25) that construction for Pingtung's international baseball stadium will begin Dec. 30. According to County magistrate Chou Chun-mi (周春米), the stadium will feature 15,000 seats, 10,000 in the infield and 5,000 in the outfield. The project aims to become a new centerpiece near the High Speed Rail Pingtung Station (屏東高鐵站).
Taiwan's recent victory against Japan in the WBSC Premier 12 on Nov. 24, winning 4-0, has reignited the nation's passion for baseball. Chou highlighted that the team's victory has united fans nationwide. Chou shared that many gathered in front of the stadium to cheer for Team Taiwan, emphasizing the sport's power to unite people.
Chou pointed out that Pingtung players excelled in the tournament, further fueling local excitement for the new stadium. She explained that the stadium will integrate a flood detention pond and landscaping to create a comprehensive sports park, hoping to host professional and international events.
The detailed design of the stadium has been completed, with a total budget of NT$2.58 billion. Chou expects the project to be finished by the end of 2027. "We look forward to it," she remarked, inviting anticipation for the stadium's future impact on the community and sports in Taiwan.
