TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Kuomintang (KMT) Chairman Eric Chu confirmed on Thursday (Oct. 12) that the party has been discussing with former Kaohsiung Mayor Han Kuo-yu to take on the role of vice chair for "several months."

In response to his previous remarks about asking Han to serve as KMT's Vice Chairman, Chu revealed that, "Some friends proposed this idea to him a few months ago before he approached me about it."

Chu further expressed optimism about having Han become a driving force in achieving the pan-Blue party's priority goal - uniting KMT and the Taiwan People's Party (TPP).

Before attending the pre-celebrations for the 71st Overseas Chinese Day, Chu reiterated the importance and urgency of collaborating with the opposition parties ahead of the 2024 presidential election in January.

"The primary objective is to achieve the goal of opposition collaboration," Chu emphasized, "We must work effortlessly to achieve this goal. Any attempt to jeopardize cooperation and unity among parties will not be tolerated."

In an exclusive interview with TVBS a day earlier, Han unveiled plans to report his final decision to Chu within the next two days, and his stance on becoming the party's top choice as the legislator-at-large candidate.
