TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The spokesperson from Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) presidential candidate Lai Ching-te's election campaign, Chen Shih-kai, called on Monday (Oct. 2) the alleged leak of sensitive submarine information to a foreign country by Kuomintang (KMT) legislator Ma Wen-chun an act of treason.
Chen accused the KMT legislator of repeated obstructions of the defense budget in the Legislative Yuan and criticized the opposition party's presidential hopeful, Hou Yu-ih, for dodging questions related to this subject.
In a Monday press conference, Ma denied accusations of leaking sensitive submarine documents and claimed to have not demanded any personal benefits from Huang Shu-kuang, the convener of the nation's first domestically manufactured submarine project, "Hai Kun."
Taiwan celebrated the official launch of Hai Kun on Sept. 28, marking a significant national defense milestone for the country to bolster its asymmetric warfare capabilities.
