TAOYUAN (TVBS News) — Taiwanese baseball star Yu Chang shared on Wednesday (Sept. 27) that he does not rule out the possibility of joining professional leagues in other countries, as he will become a free agent at the end of the year.

Welcomed by a group of excited fans, Chang returned to Taiwan from the U.S. earlier that day, following the end of his minor league Triple-A season with the Boston Red Sox.

Despite expressing willingness to consider professional leagues in Japan, South Korea, and the Chinese Professional Baseball League (CPBL), Chang said the priority remained to stay in the United States.

Reflecting on his performance this year, Chang acknowledged several setbacks, including going through surgery, a concussion, and being designated for assignment (DFA) by the Red Sox in August, saying: "I am hoping to build more confidence for the upcoming season."

Once a Major League Baseball (MLB) player, Chang admitted the year has been challenging. However, he hopes to return to the Major Leagues in 2024 by "working extra hard and seizing every opportunity."

He stated that he is scheduled to start training in late October for next season and reassured fans that he is fully recovered from the concussion after taking a three-week rest.
