NEW TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The New Taipei City Government hosted its third youth climate forum, "The Future Con 2023," on Saturday (Sept. 23).
They invited hundreds of young students and climate experts, including Jen Kretser, the Director of Climate Initiatives at the Wild Center, to engage in discussions about climate change.
As climate change intensifies, the primary goal of the youth climate forum is to instill the concept of environmental protection in everyone, beginning with education.
This event also featured the participation of companies such as HwaCom Systems and Singtex Industrial, who engaged with young people to explore ways to contribute to environmental protection in their daily lives.
In response to climate change, New Taipei City took several significant steps in 2022.
They released the "Pathway to Net-Zero Emissions in 2050 and Climate Action White Paper" and closed down the city's last coal-fired boiler.
The city also initiated "Actions for Future" programs to facilitate public discussions on plastic and waste reduction, achieving net-zero emissions, and promoting sustainable cities.
They actively engaged in dialogues with young people to gain recognition and support while striving to make environmental protection a universal value.
