KEELUNG (TVBS News) — Five hikers were stung by bees in the mountainous area bordering Keelung and Rueifang in New Taipei City, the Keelung City Fire Department reported Monday (Sept. 25). The incident occurred at 10:46 a.m. near the Tian Wai Tian Garden Cemetery at the Sijiaoting and Keelung border.

The victims, three women and two men, were rushed to Keelung Hospital under the Ministry of Health and Welfare. Liu, a female hiker, was taken into intensive care due to the severity of her condition, which once led to shock. Others included a 70-year-old woman surnamed Ko, a woman surnamed Chang, a 60-year-old woman surnamed Liu, and a 64-year-old man surnamed Ko.

A 69-year-old male hiker surnamed Cheng descended the mountain and sought medical aid. He was picked up by the New Taipei Fire Department and transferred to a hospital.

Animal Protection Office staff, alongside the fire department, went to the trailhead where the incident occurred. They discovered that the previously established warning signs and cordons had been torn down. The staff will soon venture into the mountains to inspect for further beehives.
