NEW TAIPEI (TVBS) — Summer is the peak season for using air conditioners, and recently the New Taipei City Environmental Protection Department has received numerous complaints from the public regarding water dripping or noise caused by air conditioners, which have been negatively affecting their quality of life.

According to data, the New Taipei City government receives approximately 460 noise complaints and 400 water-dripping complaints related to air conditioners each year. Thankfully, most cases are resolved within the given timeframe, with only 4 to 5 resulting in fines.

Officials said that water dripping from air conditioners could result in a fine ranging from NT$1,200 to NT$6,000 if not improved during the seven-day legal deadline. And for noise complaints, failure to improve within the specified time limit will result in a fine ranging from NT$3,000 to NT$30,000 as per the law.

Inspectors will adhere to regulations to address noise complaints by setting up noise measuring instruments within the premises of the complained-about buildings.

By deducting the original background sound, if the noise source does not exceed the standard value, there will be no need to issue a warning.

Despite the inconvenience caused by water dripping and noise from air conditioners, the active inspection and penalty measures implemented by the Environmental Protection Department can hopefully improve the residents' environment and quality of life.
